My Top Ten Reasons To Exercise
March 12, 2009 by Steve
In order to achieve a healthy lifestyle, most of us will need to follow an exercise program. It is an essential requirement for our physical and mental well-being. Below you’ll find my top ten reasons to exercise, which will hopefully motivate you and set you on the right path to health and happiness.
1. Helps you lose fat
It’s a proven fact that exercise contributes to weight loss. If you burn more calories than you consume, you’ll lose weight. When you exercise, you burn calories. The more you exercise, the more weight and fat you’ll lose. It’s as simple as that.
2. Helps prevent disease
The chance of developing a disease has been proven to decrease when exercise has been added to the mix. These diseases include heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke.
About 4 out of 5 deaths caused by heart disease and cancer can be linked to stress and a lack of exercise. We know that diabetes increases your chance of a heart attack and a stroke. It’s really a no-brainer… to prevent something like this from happening to you, start exercising!
3. Helps to improve/cure disease
Many diseases, such as the ones mentioned above, can be improved or even cured by exercising. Through exercise, you can decrease HDL cholesterol levels, decrease triglyceride levels, and decrease your blood pressure as well.
4. Enhance the state of your mind
Regular exercising will lead to an increased release of endorphins in the body. These chemicals will fight depression and help you feel happy. The body releases these endorphins after only a few minutes into your workout.
There is another chemical known as serotonin that is increased during and after a workout. The increased levels of serotonin in the central nervous system is associated with feelings of well-being and decreased mental depression.
5. Exercise can be fun
Exercise can be very fun and rewarding. Follow the right exercise program for you, and add some fun to your day. Go for a lunchtime walk or swim, find an exercise buddy or make new friends at your local gym.
6. Prevents obesity
Nobody wants to be obese. The main reason is that with obesity comes health problems. And believe me, the health problems will start mounting one after the other. Exercise will prevent obesity and can turn an obese person into a healthy person with a body they can be proud of.
7. Improved self-esteem
Working out on a regular basis can definitely boost your self esteem. You will look better and be more comfortable with yourself as well. You’ll also be more inclined to meet new people, which can boost your confidence as well. Exercise can also increase your sexual stamina, which can help you improve your marriage or relationship.
8. Helps you sleep better
This is one of the benefits you don’t have to wait for. You’ll be sleeping better after your first workout. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try adding exercise to your daily routine.
9. Increase your overall strength
Exercise will increase the overall strength of your body. Rigorous exercise brings about an increase in stamina. It will also increase your body’s endurance, resulting in an increase of your physical capacity.
10. Exercise is the fountain of youth
Exercise can reverse the natural decline in metabolism that begins at around age thirty. As we enter our 30′s, about ½ pound of muscle is lost each year and replaced by fat. A pound of muscle burns more calories than a pound of fat. Muscle is an active tissue that burns 30 to 50 calories per pound at rest each day. A pound of fat only burns three calories per day.
Exercising is the best thing you could do for your body. You can do it at home or in a gym. It doesn’t have to be difficult.
