Treadmills – The Convenient Way to Work Out
July 6, 2009 by Steve
If you want an exercise routine that you can do year-round and still work into your busy schedule, maybe you should consider purchasing a treadmill. Running and walking are the best forms of exercise because of the natural body movement involved. And the safest way to perform these exercises is on a treadmill.
The great thing about treadmills is that you can use them during any season. While you might not be able to go jogging in a snow storm or while it’s thundering outside, a treadmill in your home can be accessed anytime.
If you’re thinking about purchasing a treadmill, there are some things you should become familiar with before picking one up.
Price: Basically when it comes down to it, the more you pay for a treadmill the better machine you will get. This is because you’re paying for added accessories and more stability. If you want something simple that can do the job, a basic model is good enough. You might become bored with the lack of extras, but you can always upgrade.
Then there’s the mid-range model. With added accessories, the ride becomes smoother and more lively. And the price is still sensible.
If you don’t mind splurging, the high-end treadmills will overwhelm you with more bells and whistles than you could ever dream of. With all the courses, heart monitors, incline levels, cup holders, book holders, and digital programming, you may not know where to start!
Check online to see what add-ons you can use and what you can do without. This will narrow down your choices and help you pick the right machine for you.
Stability: While shopping around for treadmills, you may want to consider wearing your workout clothes. You should “test drive” the different models and see which ones perform best for you. You should be cautious of machines that shake or rattle while going full speed. A stable ride will make a world of difference when it comes to safety.
You should also take the motor volume into consideration. If you’re planning on reading, watching the television or listening to music while exercising, a noisy motor will quickly become a big distraction.
Size: When shopping online, or even in a store, size can be deceiving. Make sure you measure the area where you want to put the treadmill and allow for plenty of “walk-around” space. So make sure to check the dimensions before you buy.
While treadmills may seem a little pricey, they will pay for themselves over time with convenience and indoor safety. Plus there won’t be an excuse to miss a workout. So make sure you look online for bargains. You just might be surprised with the prices and options available. I’m sure with a little research, you’ll be able to find the best treadmill for you and your budget.

Treadmills are great for exercise, especially for when you can’t get outside to take a walk or ride a bike. Watching one of your favorite shows while you exercise makes it even more enjoyable. Listening to a radio show or to recorded audio’s while exercising is fun too. Then the time on the treadmill will fly by and you will be looking forward to your next treadmill workout.
